Trombone and Piano - advanced

SKU: CY.CC2911

Composed by Anonymous composer. Arranged by Ken Shifrin. Renaissance. Solo part and Piano accompaniment. Cherry Classics #CC2911. Published by Cherry Classics (CY.CC2911).

The 17th Century St. Thomas Sonata is the oldest known, extant solo work originally written specifically for the Trombone. UK Trombonist Ken Shifrin came across the manuscript while searching through archival material of the Augustian monks of the St. Thomas Church in Brno, Moravia. The work was written between 1660 and 1670 most likely by one of the priests at the church.
It is in four movements of about 6 minutes in length and can be played on alto Trombone by advanced performers. There is also a bass clef version that has been simplified somewhat.
This is a new improved edition from Shifrin's original one of 1999.
Here is part of the ITA review from the first edition:
Customarily the trombone soloist would have embellished the repeated material in such a 17th century solo work, and "Shifrin's valuable suggestions regarding ornamentation are a welcome guide to the performer. Clarke's keyboard realization is good -- simple and idiomatic" [ITA JOURNAL].
