Grainger's Spoon River

This is truly a solid representation of the Master of Winds, Percy Aldridge Grainger and we should be forever indebted to Glenn Cliffe Bainum for arranging it for the band. This is not a work for an ensemble with any weakness in any section. It requires very strong woodwinds, especially tenor and bari sax as well as a full percussion section to include harp and piano. You'll need two each xylophones and marimbas and players with good skills. The difference with this work is that it's based on an American folk fiddle-tun collected in Illinois rather than the usual British Isles selections we're use to from Perks. If you have the forces, it's a wonderful, lively tune that'll show off your group and really engage your audiences.
