Published by Rita Arendz (A0.1126993).The origins of the folksong "She's Like The Swallow" are a bit unclear, as the oral tradition of Newfoundland does not recall this song until 1930, when Maud Karpeles dictated the music from John Hunt of Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. This setting for British style Brass Band begins with minimal instrumentation emoting the anguish of lost love as inspired by the lyrics "She loves her love and love is no more." The moodier instruments of the band, the flugelhorn, the tenor horn, the euphonium, and Eb Bass, are highlighted in these "anguish" passages. The folksong is first presented in the flugelhorn and later with the full band in variations of each other. The closing statement emotes a release of the anguish while still being sad. This is a lovely addition to the band's repertoire, appropriate for concerts and festivals. Duration ~4:40. 40 pages.
