The Swan, arranged for Bassoon Quartet (or 'cello or trombone quartet)

Considered one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, Saint-Saëns' The Swan portrays the legend of the "swan song": a popular Ancient Greek and Roman belief that the swan, the most beautiful of all animals, remained silent until its final moments of life, when it would sing the most beautiful of all songs. Originally portrayed by the ‘cello, this arrangement highlights the expressive tenor register of the bassoon, alongside the warmth of the bass notes and light ripple in the accompaniment.

Duration, 3 mins. approx. Original key (G maj). Score and parts included.

This arrangement was originally written for Genovia Quartet in 2020 by bassoonist Gillian Horn.
