Originally published in 1934, the Rubank book remains the standard method book for beginners. I remember using the same light-blue book when I studied trombone in the band as a youth. Many years later I am using the same method to learn the saxophone as an adult. Everything is covered meticulously and in the proper order. Every page is a lesson: simply repeat each lesson until you have mastered it, then proceed to the next one. When you have finished this book (I did in about three months) you will have learned to finger all the notes of the saxophone and sight-read music in nine different keys as well as play the complete chromatic scale. I highly recommend this book to beginners of all ages.
