Annotation:
Although based on the 1974 studio recording (the original version), this ‚translation‘ incorporates elements such as bass lines, ornaments, harmonic and rhythmic variations from concert versions performed by several King Crimson line–ups through subsequent decades. That is, no part in this score is made up, but rather borrowed from various live recordings, mainly those of 1984, 1994/1996 and 2016. „Red“ was originally conceived- composed by Robert Fripp but certainly includes a multitude of improvisational input by all performers ever involved — which affects on the essential core of King Crimson music: the area of tension between composition and improvisation.
Given that context, this adaptation is of course only one of an in&nite number of possible versions and thus may be considered as a springboard for further improvisation.
— Stephan Mensger, Berlin, October 2024.
