(Re)Groove Clarinet Quartet - Digital Sheet Music

For clarinet quartet (3 Bb, bass) or optional quintet (3 Bb, alto (sub 4th), bass)“(Re)Groove” began as a compositional exercise exploring the use of an ostinato. I had fun with my original piano version and have since wanted to expand the piece into something more. I wasn’t sure how or when that would happen. When the opportunity arose to write a piece for the Chimera Consort, a trombone quartet, I knew this would be the place to expand my ostinato project. And as a clarinet player, I had to arrange it for clarinet ensemble! And so “(Re)Groove” was born. While the original ostinato forms the basis for the piece, I added more thematic material and structure. The title reflects the recycled nature of the piece. Fittingly, “Re” also happens to be the symbol for Rhenium, which is “... a silvery-gray, heavy, third-row transition metal in group 7 of the periodic table” (Wikipiedia). While I have indicated some effects (i.e. scoops, falls), the performers may view those as improvisational and adapt them as desired.

“(Re)Groove” began as a compositional exercise exploring the use of an ostinato.
