Martin Watt was born in Standerton in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa in 1970. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the North-West University in Potchefstroom, a Master's degree from the University of Cape Town, and a Doctorate from the University of Pretoria. Since 2018, he is an associate professor of music theory and composition at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town. The 121st psalm of the Book of Psalms is one of 15 psalms classified as a "Song of Ascents," believed by scholars to indicate that it was sung by worshippers as they ascended the road to Jerusalem. This English translation of this text ("I Lift Up Mine Eyes") is set to music by Martin Watt for double choir (SSAATTBB).
