Lever Harp - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download

SKU: H0.862591-SC000021964

By Stevie Wonder (with Dorothy Ashby). Arranged by Stephanie Bennett. 8 pages. Published by Harpworld Music Co. (H0.862591-SC000021964).

IF IT’S MAGIC, from Stevie Wonder’s 1976 magnum opus SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE, is a touching and thought-provoking song about the power - and perilous fragility - of love. In his wit and subtlety, Stevie never uses the word ‘love’ in the lyrics! But what else could “it” be, that’s magic, and ‘holds the key to every heart, throughout the universe’?

On the original recording, Stevie’s voice is supported solely by the lovely harp chords of pioneering jazz harpist Dorothy Ashby (plus a little of Stevie’s harmonica at the very end).  In this arrangement, the vocal melody is played mostly by the left hand, in the range of a man’s voice, freeing the right hand to play the chords.  The right hand takes the melody in the bridges (“it holds the key…”) and in the outro.

The level is upper-intermediate. There are 15 lever changes. (You need 'full levers'; there are F, C, and G sharps, and B flats.)
