for solo piano

"The preludes in this collection were written in August to October of 2010, and are presented in the order in which they were composed. They may be performed by themselves, in any combination and any order, may be combined with any preludews written subsequent to these, and may be mixed freely with etudes from Books I-X. No pianist should play none of them.

In concert programs, the pieces should be identified as 'Preludes for Piano' and the number of each prelude attached to its title.

Most of Prelude #4, and all of Preludes 5 through 10 were written at Yaddo, in Saratoga Springs, New York. Many thanks to the staff of Yaddo and to the corporation of Yaddo for their gift of working space and working time.

The tempi may vary in performance as long as the duration of the music is preserved.

The premiere performance of Preludes Book I was April 20, 2011 by Karl Larson, at Bryan Recital Hall, Moore Musical Arts Center, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio.

All the titles of the preludes in this book are palindromes, because why not? Each prelude also quotes or references earlier music, as detailed on its last page." (David Rakowski)
