Though the form of the composition is loosely related to Bach’s Prelude, Fugue and Allegro, the language of the music is based upon my Levantine Suite. The music is melodically and harmonically modal and it invokes archaic layers of the Eastern Mediterranean music. While Prelude and Allegro are very improvisational in nature, the Ricercar is modelled after the "ideal" Renaissance form and follows points of imitation in a very free manner. The piece is dedicated to the guitarist Ysé Dastugue.
Bien que la forme de la composition soit librement inspirée du Prélude, Fugue et Allegro de Bach, le langage musical est fondé sur ma Levantine Suite. La musique est modale, tant mélodiquement qu’harmoniquement, et elle évoque des strates archaïques des musiques de la Méditerranée orientale. Alors que le Prélude et l’Allegro ont un caractère très improvisé, le Ricercar est conçu d’après la forme « idéale » de la Renaissance et suit des points d’imitation de manière très libre. L’œuvre est dédiée à la guitariste Ysé Dastugue.
