I love this book! It is so easy to learn from, and I love that you are able to play songs/duets from the get-go. It teaches dynamics, staccato, different time signatures, introduces chords, accidentals, etc.

This book is very informative and is helpful! The songs are fun to play, the book allows you to learn technique little by little so you aren't overwhelmed, and I love the exercises before each new technique or lesson!

I really like using this book because the student learns to play a complete song; accompaniment provided as a second violin part, played by the teacher or another student. The songs are all very musical and pretty.

A very dated approach to teaching violin, teachers may find it useful in conjunction with another method book. Songs are pleasant if not memorable; almost all are in duet format, allowing the teacher to play along and enhance the student's tuning ability. There are no photos, although there are several pages of instructions for holding the violin and bow, making a good sound, etc. The teaching starts with C major, on the E string, with low 1st and 2nd fingers; since most teachers now begin in A or D major, I rated the book early intermediate for this reason.
