Pirate Jenny by Bertolt Brecht Piano, Vocal, Guitar - Digital Sheet Music
By Kurt WeillBrecht's 'Grand Guignol' masterpiece, "Pirate-Jenny", was penned sometime before the idea of a 'play with music', based on John Gay's "Beggar's Opera", was conceived. It was even set to music (to Brecht's own tune, which Weill used as the basis for the chorus in his setting). One of many 'greatest hits' from Brecht and Weill's "Threepenny Opera" - itself, a huge hit when premiered in 1928 in Berlin, and again, on Broadway, with English lyrics by Marc Blitzstein, it has absolutely nothing to do with the characters or the action in "The Threepenny Opera"! But, it was too good a song not to be used! Interpreted by greats, such as Nina Simone, among others, this song, like "Mack the Knife" and "September Song", continues to wow generation after generation!
