The Day of Pentecost gives us the symbol of a mighty wind, as the Holy Spirit of God rushes upon the apostles and the Blessed Virgin. John Reese has captured the power of this cyclone in his Pentecost Toccata. The combination of sixteenth note motion in the right hand, accentual chords in the left hand, and a syncopated pedal pattern produce a toccata which is exciting, although not difficult to play.
