A virtuosic, unaccompanied piece for solo violin or flute in two sections. The second section is a development of the first; building in intensity and expanding the technical demands of the player. A prominent feature of this piece is its continual shift between two contrasting types of ideas: one lyrical and slow, and the other very fast and jagged in nature. There is no key signature, but there is traditional notation with accidentals. The piece also has a number of time signature changes and uses fermata in unexpected places, such as mid-bar with no notes underneath and over the top of bar lines. This is a challenging piece with fast changing musical moods, and a varietyof articulations.
