Osterhymne „Victimae paschali laudes / Terra tremuit by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger 4-Part - Sheet Music

By Josef Gabriel Rheinberger

The Easter hymn combines two different texts: the sequence "Victimae paschali" and the offertorium for Easter Sunday "Terra tremuit". The offertorium may also be preformed separately, since Rheinberger originally set and performed it as a stand-alone motet. The review of 1884 in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik was full of praise for the "profound conception of the musical ideas" as well as "the mastery of polyphony", and especially praised the effective contrast between the lyrical "Dic nobis Maria" and the "bone-shaking start" of "Terra tremuit" hervor.
