ISBN 9790207005366.
Juraj Filas, one of the leading personalities of the contemporary Czech music scene, likes to relate that his passion for musical composition started at a young age with the discovery and admiration of Beethoven and Verdi’s works, the compositional and structural details of which being the subjects of his thorough formal analysis. These influences are still evident in his current works, which nevertheless include harmonic and melodic concepts uniquely his own. The Omaggio [Hommage] a [to] Verdi includes many recognizable features of the Italian master's work, together with a subtle dramatization, minus the parody, that clearly delineates those issues which provide separation from, while at the same time which bind us to this bygone era. The individual performers in this flashy wind quintet are confronted with technical, musical and physical challenges which impose a majestic dimension to this work. First performance: Novembre 2004 in the chamber music series presented by the members of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra (Switzerland), in this case by the Quintetto dei Secondi (Dirk Hagemann, flute, Michel Rosset, oboe, Monika Weder, clarinet, Hubert Renner, horn and Felix Gass, bassoon).
First movement ca. 10’ Second movement ca. 7’ Last movement ca. 9’.
