An interesting read and insight into Mark's guitars however there is no insight into his playing style which is what the book appears to suggest. I have both books and it's just a detailed tablature transcription of his songs which are handed as a good guitar to what being played, however to get that knopfler sound and groove you really need to be throwing away your pick and learning how to finger pick. Knopfler got into finger picking as a youngster whilst learning to play the acoustic and played blues songs in the bars and clubs. Mark used a mixture of travis style picking and bluegrass banjo playing. TRAVIS just used his thumb, thumping away the Base lines and index finger for he melody mark use the additional second finger similar to bluegrass players. He then developed the claw hammer technique hitting the strings downward with his 2 finger nails then back up with both finger tips then the thumb hiting the Base line. Once this is mastered you will then be able to adapt
