Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Lindsey James. This edition: audio, pdf. Christmas, Classical, Traditional. Score. 2 pages. Lindsey James #1116287. Published by Lindsey James (A0.1543686).
Ideal for the KS3 classroom and complete with letter names, this keyboard/piano arrangement of Tchaikovsky's much-loved march from The Nutcracker Suite features the instantly recognisable fanfare-like melody in the right hand, with a combination of sturdy two-note chords and single-note patterns for the left hand. The triplets and dotted rhythms provide suitable challenges for students playing the treble clef, while the sustained bass notes encourage good counting and listening skills. This music also has a satisfying contrast of staccato and legato sections, which students can be encouraged to emphasize. The key of G Major could present a good opportunity to introduce the concept of key signatures to students. This piece works particularly well at Christmas time, but it can be used at any point in the year to reinforce topics and concepts such as pulse, rhythm, time signatures and key signatures.
