De compositie “Northern Anniversary” werd geschreven in het kader van Leeuwarden, Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa 2018 in opdracht van Muziekvereniging Joost Wiersma uit Jistrum. Het werk is feestelijk van karakter. Na een korte openingsfanfare volgt een opgewekt snel deel waarin een thema gebaseerd op een bolero-achtige thematiek en een majestueus thema de dienst uitmaken. Na een bespiegelend, langzaam middendeel, sober van textuur en met diverse solistische bijdragen volgt een reprise van het snelle eerste deel.

The composition “Northern Anniversary” was written for ‘Leeuwarden, Cultural Capital of Europe 2018’, commissioned by the ‘Joost Wiersma’ Music Association in Jistrum and is a festive work. A short opening fanfare is followed by a cheerful faster section using themes comprised of a type of bolero, and one more majestic in nature. Then comes a sombre and more reflective middle section, which features various solo contributions, and concludes with a reprise of the faster first section.

La composition "Northern Anniversary" a été écrite dans le cadre de Leeuwarden, Capitale culturelle de l'Europe 2018 sur l'ordre de Muziekvereniging Joost Wiersma de Jistrum. L'œuvre a un caractère festif. Une courte fanfare d'ouverture est suivie d'un mouvement joyeux et rapide dans lequel un thème basé sur un thème boléro et un thème majestueux rendent le service. Après un mouvement médian lent et réfléchi, sobre dans sa texture et avec diverses contributions solos, le premier mouvement rapide est relancé.

Die Komposition "Northern Anniversary" entstand im Rahmen von Leeuwarden, Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2018, im Auftrag der Joost Wiersma Musikgemeinschaft aus Jistrum. Das Werk hat einen festlichen Charakter. Nach einer kurzen Eröffnungs-Fanfare folgt ein fröhlicher und schneller Teil, in dem ein Thema, das auf einer boleroartigen Thematik basiert, und ein majestätisches Thema die Hauptrolle spielen. Nach einem reflektierenden, langsamen Mittelsatz, nüchtern in der Textur und mit verschiedenen Solobeiträgen wird der schnelle erste Satz wiederbelebt.
