Published by FG (A0.1181762).Night on Bald Mountain is a fantastic symphonic poem composed in 1867 by Modest Moussorgsky, inspired by the novel of Ukrainian writer Nicolas Gogol.
The piece depicts a witches' sabbath taking place on Bald Mountain, a legendary location, during the night of St John's.
In 1867, Rimsky Korsakov made an adaptation. This is the most played version today. It was also used by Disney in the movie "Fantasia".
This arrangement for a large concert band was designed to come as close as possible to Rimsky Korsakov's orchestration while limiting technical difficulties to make it accessible to a grade 4 orchestra.
