One of the delights of childhood is to watch the fireflies light up the skies of a summer evening: twinkling and shimmering as they dance about on currents of air. In this delightful little waltz, one can imagine the children as they chase after the incandescent insects, trying to capture them. They dance with their phosphorescent partners up and down the hills and across the meadows, but the fireflies always stay just out of reach. For a brief moment the music takes a minor turn suggesting a passing storm as the winds pick up and scatter the glowworms…winking out their glimmering beacons. But it passes quickly and the dance continues until the parents call the children in for the night and the fireflies go on to find some rest themselves.
