Namaskara Piano - Digital Sheet Music
Megan Peterman is a Michigan based composer. This original piano solo was inspired by the imagery of The Moon and The Sun playfully bantering at dawn over a peaceful lake. This idea came from a yoga session I attended when the teacher explained Moon salutations are typically done in response to Sun salutations, like a question and answer in musical terms. Listen for the musical phrases for The Sun and The Moon established early in the introduction as the world is waking. As life stirs on land, so too does the water in which the day is rising over. Do you hear the two voices for The Sun and The Moon? Do you always hear them in the same order throughout the piece? When do you hear the water starting to stir?Namaskara is a more formal version of Namaste which, in Sanskrit, translates to “I bow to you.” It’s also commonly interpreted as “the light in me honors the light in you.” Which I think is a perfect idea as the Moon is passing the world off to the Sun at Dawn and Dusk.
