Mountain View, a Jazz piano solo from Modern Solos by Michael Bomier Piano Solo - Digital Sheet Music
By Michael BomierJazz rhythm has the same arithmetical features as classical music rhythm. This piece shows how the basic relationships 1-1, 2-1, and 4-1 can be used clearly and unambiguously in jazz. Sometimes improvisers or arrangers will mix up rhythms so that the plethora of possibilities are all in evidence. This makes for great music and improv, but if one is reading and learning, it REALLY complicates things. So, this harmonically complex but otherwise basic piece uses ALL quarter-notes in the left-hand bass. The right hand is either solid quarters as well, 1-1, or melody in quarters, with eighth-note accents smack in-between, 2-1, or a sixteenth-note trill with a run up and down, 4-1. Approx duration is 1 min 30 secs. Make the bassline smooth, and keep the melody louder than the accent chords that fall in between. It swings like an organ shuffle or a Duke Ellington tune!
