Using the mixolydian scale rather than a conventional major scale, Remel Derrick's rhythmically charged SAB setting of the Gloria text is written for the developing mixed choir. With the option to sing with or without piano, your choir will enjoy learning and performing this fun, cool, and accessible piece! Also available for TBB Voices (BL1214) and SSA Voices (BL1256).
I have composed this setting of the Gloria text using the mixolydian scale rather than a conventional major scale. The key signature suggests E-Flat major; however, upon careful inspection, you will notice that “ti”, the D-natural, has been lowered a half step to “te”, D-Flat, which is one of the distinguishing features of the Mixolydian scale.Be careful to observe all of the dynamics, especially as each part enters to give a sense of increasing excitement. Also, work as an ensemble to create and maintain the rhythmic energy of the piece. Take special care to observe all articulation marks, particularly, the accents. There are only five pure vowel sounds in Latin: A= AH E = EH I = EE *O = AW U = OO*The O is a cross between an OH and an AH When singing in compound meter (6/8), careful attention must be given to stress the words which fall on the big beat and not the underlying pulses.Ex: GLAW-ree-ah EEN ehk | -SHEHL-sees DEH-aw.
