Mistitled Concert Band - Digital Sheet Music
This isn't so much a well-crafted, balanced piece of music as it is a bit of whimsical fun with melodic variations over a repeating rhythmic pattern. The difficulty is very uneven, with most parts pretty simple but others fairly challenging. Probably the most challenging part is the Baritone Sax, which is featured in a solo in the style of Leo Pellegrino (of Too Many Zooz fame). I also had some fun with the Italian stylistic indications, such as entrare dalla porta laterale, inosservato tranne che dai più astuti (enter through the side door, unobserved save by the most astute), unisciti armoniosamente ai tuoi fratelli e/o sorelle (blend harmoniously with your brothers and/or sisters), and in the string bass part, solo perché è pizzicato, non significa che non si debba usare il vibrato (just because it's pizzicato doesn't mean you don't have to use vibrato). The rhythmic tapestry is established in the beginning one voice at a time, with seven independent solo clarinet parts (1 Eb, 3 Bb's, 1 Alto, 1 Bass, 1 Contrabass). If you wanted to be pretentious you could call it a chaconne; but this piece isn't pretentious. The piece could be a fun little addition to a "pops" program. It's priced low because it isn't entirely serious.
