“Mysteries of Giovanna” is a contemporary work for clarinet, timpani, and strings
composed by Aleh Ferreira, one of the most respected composers and arrangers of the new
generation of Brazilian instrumental music. The piece was written especially for the
singer Giovanna Rocha, a young rising artist on the São Paulo music scene, whose presence
inspired not only the music itself, but also the silence that surrounds it.
With an introspective character and textures that shift between the ethereal and the dense,
the work invites the listener into an emotional space where mystery does not need to be
decoded, but simply felt. The clarinet leads the melodic narrative as if it were Giovanna’s
own voice: at times clear, at times suspended, always wrapped in an aura of enigmatic
delicacy.
There are no definitive answers along this musical journey. Each pause, each ritardando,
each pianissimo string color seems to ask: “Who is Giovanna to you?” — and also:
“What part of Giovanna lives within each of us?”
Rather than revealing, the piece cultivates. Rather than concluding, it contemplates.
