Metamorphose de Narcisse by Satoshi Yagisawa Concert Band - Sheet Music
By Satoshi YagisawaMetamorphose de Narcisse is a commissioned work by the Kawaguchi City Ensemble Liberte Wind Orchestra, following "Machu Picchu - City in the Sky." This piece marks the second installment in my "paintings" series. "Metamorphose de Narcisse" references one of the seminal works of Spanish modernist painter Salvador Dali (1904-1989). The painting, themed around Greek mythology, depicts the ironic fate of Narcissus, who falls in love with his own reflection in the water and is ultimately transformed into a flower, using Dali's unique double imagery. Captivated by this intense, detailed style that exerts an overwhelming tension on the viewer, I chose it as the theme for this work. Fortunately, during the period of theme research, the "Dali Centennial Retrospective Exhibition" was being held in Ueno, Tokyo, where I encountered many of his works and gained inspiration for my composition. This piece represents my attempt to approach the trans-spatial sensations experienced by Dali with my own musical vocabulary. (Satoshi Yagisawa)
