I appreciate your willingness to continue supplying us with hard to find gems from the past.

Was so glad to find this. It’s getting increasingly difficult to find these books. I find the music in these to be so good as compared to other methods and the childish little tunes provided.

I used to wonder why my Thompson books were green, not red. Now that I teach, I realize the green ones are so much better. My red friends played by number, but I read the music. I know the great classics and my red friends dont. I would never change from my green books. Its OK to be different!

I was glad I studied from this course and not the red one. Now that I teach, I enjoy using this series.I do not recommend trying to use this with the other course (the red one), because the books don't teach the same topics in the same order. You just get frustrated trying to fit them together. Instead, I recommend just using this course by itself. When I taught the red course, the kids kept getting stuck after grade 1. With the Melody course, they didn't, because the progress just seems to go better. Each song gets just a little harder than the one before. There is not a jump from one book to the next.My favorite song is Andantino. I have my pupils work on that one until they show real artistry on it. They also like Dance Macabre. If the pupils like the music, they practice harder to learn it.

This book is so much better than the red first grade book it amazes me that teachers still use the red one. There are only a few pieces in a fixed position in this course - moves occur after just a few pieces and they are systematically developed. The pieces are mostly based on classical themes: Valse Triste, New World Symphony, etc.The other major feature of the green course is that there are not the huge gaps between the various grades. By the end of 1b, the student is truly ready for grade 2 of either the green or the red course. The progress of the course is smooth, unlike the red course.
