Ant's Music #1281356. Published by Ant's Music (A0.1717938).This trio for oboe, cello, and guitar was originally commissioned for the album Oboe in Africa featuring Kobus Malan. The guitar part is conceived to emulate the mbira, maintaining a strict rhythmic pulse throughout, while the oboe and cello play more lyrically except where otherwise indicated. At times, the cellist is instructed to tap on the instrument’s body or neck, using either hand, to create a percussive effect.
The piece draws its inspiration from a song first conceived for guitar and mbira during a visit with friends along a river in the Western Cape, South Africa.
