Just what I was looking for!

Almost exactly like the Harry Simeone recording you probably remember-a slightly different ending, but otherwise just like it. The accompaniment (not sure why a previous reviewer said the recording was done a cappella-it was NOT, but was accompanied by I believe a harpsichord) is tricky, but fun for an accompanist with some experience-it gallops right along! I would suggest this for a small to mid-size group with fair sight reading skills-the most difficult parts are probably the dynamics-the temptation among our group seems to be to blast away as loud as possible, when the tone should be one of hushed excitement and anticipation-and controlling the breath so as not to break up the phrasing too much. All in all, we are having fun with it, and I think it's a keeper!

Just what I wanted!

I bought this for my small church choir to try out, and it was a hit! I grew up listening to the Harry Simeone Christmas album this was recorded on, and, while it's not EXACTLY the same, the differences are negligible-two extra verses, and a slightly longer ending. If you prefer the ending on the album, it's easy enough to tweak a little-we haven't decided yet! We are such a small group, and may end up doing this as a quartet or even STB-I think it will work either way, if necessary-with our accompanist possibly using the harpsichord or hammer dulcimer sound on our piano. We have several people in our group who don't read music, and they are already getting the hang of it-I wouldn't call it an easy piece, but it's not hard. We all love this, and can't wait to spring it on the congregation during the holidays!

Great arrangement of a wonderful carol

The piano accompaniment is over-busy and dispensable, but the four-part choral arrangement is just the way I remember it from the Harry Simeone Christmas album that came out in the 1950s. (It was sung a capella on the album.) A very stirring and beautiful Christmas song.
