Magna Charta (March) by John Philip Sousa Brass Quintet - Digital Sheet Music

By John Philip Sousa

Magna Charta (March)

Magna Charta (March) was written for the International Magna Charta Day Association and their push for annual observance of Magna Charta Day on June 15th, the same day its namesake was signed in 1215. The Magna Charta’s impact echoes throughout the world today – even the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights find inspiration in its ideals. The study of the Magna Charta’s multiple versions and turbulent history is essential to understanding the fight for freedom. This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. Magna Charta (March) was composed in 1927, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2024. The piece is catalogued as Volume 6, No. 108. Section titles (such as “First Strain” and “Trio”) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute. - Matthew NunesFort Wayne, Indiana 2026
