The romantic, picturesque and dramatic appeal of medieval Christianity furnished Richard Wagner, after 'Tannhäuser', with 'Lohengrin'. It's a romantic opera in three acts first performed in 1850 un Weimar under the baton of Liszt, a keen champion of the most vital new music of his day. German arranger Christian Schüller made a fine arrangement of the prelude to the first act of this opera.
