The precise year in which this psalm was arranged is unknown. The work was probably written following a concert given by the soprano Anna Vierordt-
Helbing, Margarete Schweikert and the organist
Adolf Hamm on the occasion of the dedication of
the organ in the Christuskirche (Christ church) in
Achern on 19 September 1909.
The three musicians gave the first performance
of Lobe den Herrn on 25 September 1910 in the
Gedachtniskirche (Memorial church) in Speyer.
When the work was printed, the following report
appeared in the newspaper Badische Landeszeitung
on 29 October 1912:
This anthem setting of the words of Psalm 104 for
soprano, violin and organ by the local woman composer
Margarete Schweikert was recently performed
for the seventh time in Basel Cathedral. The work,
which has now appeared in print, is dedicated to the
Karlsruhe-born oratorio singer Mrs Anna Vierordt-
Helbing (the wife of the poet) who also sang the
soprano part in the first performance in the mighty
Memorial church in Speyer.
