The Little Suite op. 59 by Julius Klengel is for advanced cellists. The five movements offer the three players rewarding music for the classroom and recital hall, particularly since the demands made upon the players are different for each instrument. Cello I clearly sets the pace and shapes the melodic substance. Cello II is given the character of a somewhat demanding middle part; Klengels endeavor to avoid typical accompaniment formulae is clearly palpable. As to be expected, the lowest part (Cello III) is the simplest.
