Lieutenant Kije Op 60 Brass Quintet - Digital Sheet Music
Lieutenant Kije (1934) was the first music that Sergei Prokofiev composed for film, as well as his first commission. He intentionally composed this soundtrack with a more melodic sensibility than he had with previous pieces. The two movements contained in this arrangement for Brass Quintet were made popular by Rolf Smedvig as recorded by the Empire Brass, released in 1989. I based my arrangement somewhat on their version, but also endeavored to base my voicings closer to the original Full Score. The two movements from the Suite compiled by Prokofiev, "Kije's Wedding" and "Troika," make for a perfect pair of pieces for your recital, or special music for any festive occasion.
