This arrangement of Let Us Break Bread Together has a jazzy feel that will delight your choir and congregation. Originally an African American spiritual, this song may have served as a signal song of Virginia slaves during the 18th century, who used it and others to convene their secret meetings. It’s use as a communion song probably dates to after the U. S. Civil War. The anthem ends with a dramatic a capella section.

Let Us Break Bread Together can be sung as a standalone piece for a Communion Sunday, or as part of a larger work, A Service of Holy Communion. The Holy Communion theme of Let Us Break Bread Together is fellowship. See Acts 2:42-27 and 1 Corinthians 10:16-17.
