La Folia Violin and Piano by Arcangelo Corelli Violin Solo - Sheet Music

By Arcangelo Corelli

Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713 ) was a virtuoso violinist, pedagogue and composer of the Baroque era. His best known work is the Violin Sonata in D minor 'La Folia,' Op.5 No.12. Its name, “Folly,” also translates as “madness” in Italian, referring to the vivacity, fire and the frenzied way dancers twirled to the music. The structure consist of theme, variations and a coda. Many composers, including Liszt and Rachmaninov, have used La Folia's theme. Rachmaninov dedicated his variant to Fritz Kreisler, whose cadenza is included in this edition. This world premiere violin performance edition includes concise fingerings and bowings by Heifetz protégé Endre Granat.
