L-O-V-E by Natalie Cole Jazz Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music

After first appearing as an instrumental on Bert Kaempferts 1964 Blue Midnight, "L-O-V-E" quickly attained classic status when released as a vocal number by Nat King Cole as the title number of the last album he made before his early death from lung cancer in 1965. Anticipating its success, Cole even recorded versions in Japanese, French, Italian and German and Spanish. Perhaps stemming from its feel-good easy swing, its popularity has never waned and a long series of subsequent cover versions including those by Diane Warwick, Joss Stone Michael Bublé and Cole's daughter, Natalie Cole.

This arrangement draws evokes the big band style of Count Basie, borrowing his classic piano-led opening and ending as well as featuring passages of block harmonies for the horns and a shout chrous at letter C. There is also a written-out solo line for the whole ensemble at A (2nd time). There are two solo sections: a half-form at B (which may be substituted for a vocal reprise) and a full form at E. All solos may be taken by any instrument. The solo section at E may be omitted by skipping between the two v symbols.
