Incipit Vita Nova Written for Jon Faddis Big Band - Sheet Music

Commissioned for Jon Faddis and the Hilton All-Star Big Band This is intended to be a closer, featuring the brilliant trumpet of Jon Faddis.* The overall mood, after the dramatic introductory statement, is one of collective celebration. After the slow introduction, the chart is a double-time samba groove featuring the solo trumpet (naturally), plus a tenor solo to give the trumpet a rest. The long form of the melody, with its major-minor contrast, is reminiscent of the Jobim standard 'Chega De Saudade' ('No More Blues'), so the soloists have some nice changes to stretch out on. A great festival choice. *Regarding the range: The written part of the trumpet solo does have a few high notes (there's one F6, and it ends on a G6), but overall the range is not unapproachable for good collegiate lead players. The bulk of the part is in the staff or up to C6, and plenty of space to rest.Ranges: Solo Trumpet: G6; Trumpet 1: F6; Trombone 1: C5
