In the Bleak Midwinter by Gustav Holst Percussion Ensemble - Digital Sheet Music
By Gustav HolstOriginally composed by Gustav Holst, this is an arrangement of “In the Bleak Midwinter” for a percussion ensemble of eight to nine players. This piece opens with the melody in the first vibraphone, played at a soft dynamic to calmly introduce the melody that runs through the entire place. The second vibraphone plays arpeggiated chords to guide the melody. The repeating melody slowly builds, adding a marimba countermelody and moving the arpeggiated chords to the glockenspiel part. Finally, the piece reaches its climax when all percussion parts join in, and the non-pitched percussion parts drive the melody forward. To finish, the first vibraphone original melody is reintroduced, as the piece builds to a satisfying and calming ending that reiterates the original mood of the piece. Instrumentation:- Glockenspiel- Vibraphone 1- Vibraphone 2- Marimba- Timpani- Percussion (Optional - play on drum kit)- Chimes- Suspended Cymbal- Sleigh Bells
