    very good

Good selections of musics, and arranged to make the delicate timbres of Piano sound resonate brilliantly.

    Worth the effort

These arrangements are not ones that you whip up on a Sunday morning when you didn't have time to practice for the week, but they're also not so difficult or demanding that they suck the fun out of preparing them, either. The harmonies and rhythms are fresh and new and several incorporate interesting counter melodies. I appreciate that each has a sense of drama to it with effective use of dynamics, tempo and key changes, etc. I'll be looking for more collections like this from Dan Forrest in the future!

    Beautiful Arrangements

I have been looking for a book like this for years! Most of the solo books I find sound too simplistic, or just aren't the traditional style I play. I was hooked as soon as I heard the samples!

    Dan's arrangements are gold!

I bought this book on the recommendation of a more experienced church pianist and am delighted with what I found! I have already played through many of the arrangements and have felt chills playing each one. While not something beginning pianists could pull off easily, the writing allows for maximum beauty through straight-forward patterns. I would thoroughly recommend this to church pianists looking for a bit more challenge.

    A book of gems

I am an advanced pianist always on the lookout for new hymn arrangements. I almost did not buy this except for Nearer, Still Nearer which I have not seen arranged. I am just so glad I did because this is a book of gems--beautifully arranged, faithful to the text, challenging to heart, soul, and mind. It requires an advanced pianism though, because Mr. Forrest loves to play the melody against a singing (counter)melody sometimes by the same hand. So far I have played five of these gems and all were well-received in church. Just to clarify the level of difficulty, Illuminations is much easier than Joel Raney's Expressions or settings by Joseph Martin.
