This epic arrangement of the Jerome Kern-Johnny Mercer classic was originally arranged for Maynard Ferguson by Steve Wiest and recorded on Maynard's album MF Horn VI, Live at Ronnie’s. Steve then expanded the chart for full modern big band (five saxes, eight brass, guitar, piano, bass, drums) for a Maynard Ferguson tribute and then eventually had it recorded by The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra on their album Invitation. Featuring piano up front and then a trombone solo, I’m Old Fashioned is a swing ballad in the style of Slide Hampton’s Frame for the Blues. With a long soft shout followed by a blazing "bring down the house" shout chorus, the piece swings from beginning to end.Written for advanced pro level, but playable by universities and great high school programs. Lead trumpet is written up to a concert F above high C (transposed 4 ledger G) Rhythm section has chord changes as well as written parts.
