Published by Paul Kajzar, Gyllcott Music (A0.1726828).An arrangement for mixed reed quintet (oboe, Bb clarinet, alto saxophone, basset horn, bassoon) of a fugue by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti (1797-1848). Although best known today for his vast operatic output (at least 65 operas), Donizetti also produced a large number of instrumental, chamber and vocal works, that included 16 symphonies and 19 string quartets. This fugue is one of a number of pieces in this musical form that he composed for unspecified instruments quite early on in his life (the manuscript for this one is dated 1817). The music has a joyful and light-hearted character and would make an interesting and unusual addition to any recital program. The set comprises full score and parts. Difficulty level : Intermediate/Advanced.
