The story takes place in the ancient days when people travel by boats to faraway lands and it would probably be years before seeing loved ones again. The mother silently watches the flowing river take away her son until he is no longer in sight . . .
The song is in aeolian mode in the key of G. The range is low A (1.5 octave below middle C) to E (2 octaves above middle C). It requires one mid song D# lever change on the right. .
