This work was commissioned for Michala Petri by the Carnegie Hall Corporation, in honor of Carnegie Hall's Centennial Season. The world premiere of the original version was given in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, New York City, on Friday 15th March 1991. The work is dedicated to Michala Petri. The present score is a revised performing edition prepared by David Ellis, on behalf of the composer. The recorder part has been edited by John Turner. The premiere of this version was given by John Turner and the Camerata Ensemble on 16th April 2004 in St. John's Smith Square London. It is also available on CD, performed by the same artists, on Naxos (Arnold: Cello Concerto/Symphony for Strings/Fantasy, 8.572640).
