It is written in memory of Gilbert Johnson, former principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra and professor of trumpet at the University of Miami. This work is based on two of his most famous recordings: The Antiphonal Music of Gabrieli and Respighi's Pines of Rome. It effectively makes use of an antiphonal choir and is an excellent concert opener.
