F. Duvernoy: Selected Duos for Hand Horns, attributed to Frédéric-Nicolas Duvernoy Brass Duet - Audio

Frédéric-Nicolas Duvernoy (16 October 1765 in Montbéliard – 19 July 1838 in Paris) was a French composer and hornist . His celebrated Méthode pour le cor 1802 includes charming duets, now attributed to André-Frédéric Eler. André-Frédéric Eler, born in Alsace, France, moved to Paris in 1764. In 1794 he became a member of the jury in the Institute National de Musique (the later Conservatoire de Musique), and was later a professor there. His concerto for horn was printed in 1796 by Naderman (later Imbault) in Paris. The successful young hornist Frederic Duvernoy seems to have inspired Eler, and possibly advised Eler on composing for the horn of his day. We recorded the first Duo on the modern horn and then on the hand horn, to allow comparison. The rest of the Duos are recorded on the hand horn.
