This is an arrangement for 4 violins. The parts are split. The original first violin is split into Violin I and Violin II. The original second violin is played by Violin III and Violin IV. Some parts of the original second violin are split between the new Violin III and Violin IV.
In this way, the melodies are clearer, smoother and easier to play.
The original score is sometimes performed only with the original first violin (as a solo). As such, this arrangement can also be played by just Violin I and Violin II (as a duet).
