Composed by James Sclater. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 79 pages. James S Sclater #5998739. Published by James S Sclater (A0.961282).

This four-movement work was premiered in 2016 by the Fondren Quartet. Movement 1, Morning Song, is an angular study in instrumental interplay. The 3rd movement, Graveyard Hoedown, is a type of "Devil's Bluegrass" dance. The elegy "for quiet heroes" honors those who risked their lives during WWII to hide Jews from the Nazis. The elegy "for Jerzy Popieluszko" is a memorial to the Polish Catholic priest who was murdered by the authorities for his outspokenness during the tumult in that country. If time is a factor, this work can be successfully done by just playing the first three movements, or perhaps performing movements 1, 4, and 3 in that order. This is serious, reflective music with rewards for both performers and audience. For advance players.
